Bhajan Lal Govt Removes 12 New Districts and 3 Divisions in Rajasthan

Districts and Divisions in Rajasthan

Districts and Divisions in Rajasthan– Under the leadership of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the BJP government decided to annul 12 new districts and 3 new divisions created during the Congress rule. This decision was taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, due to which Rajasthan now has a total of 41 districts and 7 divisions. After this announcement, a debate has started about politics and administration, where BJP and Congress are blaming each other.

How Were the New Districts and Divisions Created Earlier?

In August 2023, the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government established 17 new districts and 3 new divisions based on the recommendations of the Ram Lubhaya Committee. This increased the total number of districts in Rajasthan to 50. Major urban districts like Jaipur and Jodhpur were divided into two separate districts each. Later, in October 2023, just a day before the election code of conduct was implemented, Congress announced 3 more districts—Malpura, Sujangarh, and Kuchaman—but they could not be notified due to the timing of the code’s implementation.

Congress’s claim

Congress said that by creating new districts:

  1. Improvement in government services: People will get government services faster in smaller districts.
  2. Law and order will improve: It will be easier to handle law and order in smaller districts.
  3. Committee’s recommendations: Ram Lubhaya Committee justified the need for new districts.

Which Districts and Divisions Were Removed by the BJP Government?

The BJP government decided to annul the following districts:

  • Anupgarh
  • Dudu
  • Gangapur City
  • Jaipur Rural
  • Jodhpur Rural
  • Kekri
  • Neem Ka Thana
  • Sanchore
  • Shahpura

The three annulled divisions are:

  • Pali
  • Banswara
  • Sikar

However, these districts were retained by the BJP government:

  • Balotra
  • Beawar
  • Deeg
  • Didwana-Kuchaman
  • Kotputli-Behror
  • Khairthal-Tijara
  • Phalodi
  • Salumber

Now, Rajasthan has 41 districts and 7 divisions.

What the BJP government say?

The BJP called the Congress’ decision to create new districts a result of haste and poor planning. They gave some reasons for this:

  1. Financial Problems: There was a lack of funds and administrative facilities required for the new districts.
  2. Poor Preparation: In many new districts, even the offices of the collector and SP were not created.
  3. Committee Report: The BJP formed a new committee to review the decision, which concluded that the creation of new districts was not immediately necessary.

Ashok Gehlot’s statement on social media

Ashok Gehlot said on social media, “Creating new districts was a well-thought-out decision taken in the interest of the public. The BJP has canceled it completely out of political vengeance.”

Effects of this decision

Administrative issues: Administrative reorganization will have to be done to remove the districts, which will take time and resources.

Public discontent: People of the districts that were canceled may be angry with this decision.

Political tension: This issue may further increase tension between the BJP and the Congress.
