The 8th edition of the India-Kazakhstan joint military exercise, KAZIND-2024, commenced at the Surya Foreign Training Node in Auli, Uttarakhand. This annual event, which aims to boost military cooperation between the two nations, will run until 13th October 2024. The main goal of the exercise is to enhance the joint military capability to conduct counter-terrorism operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrains.
Objectives of India-Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2024
The joint military exercise aims to rehearse and refine tactical drills for counter-terrorism operations in a sub-conventional scenario, as per Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The focus is on achieving high levels of physical fitness and sharing best practices between the two militaries.
Key tactical drills include:
- Joint response to terrorist actions
- Establishment of a joint command post
- Intelligence and surveillance center setup
- Securing helipads and landing sites
- Special heliborne operations and combat free fall
- Cordon and search operations
- Employment of drones and counter-drone systems
Representation
India is represented by 120 personnel from the Kumaon Regiment, supported by various other arms and services, along with personnel from the Indian Air Force. Kazakhstan’s participation includes personnel from its Land Forces and Airborne Assault Troopers.
Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony was graced by Colonel Karibayev Nurlan Serikbayevich, Commander of the Kazakhstan contingent, and Colonel Yogesh Upadhyay, Commander of the Indian contingent.
History of KAZIND
KAZIND was first launched as Exercise Prabal Dostyk in 2016 and later upgraded to a company-level exercise in 2018. It serves as an essential platform for enhancing military cooperation and sharing operational knowledge between India and Kazakhstan.
