85 New Kendriya Vidyalayas Approved– The Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across India. The move is aimed at increasing quality education opportunities for all students in the country, including children of central government and defence personnel.

Big Investment Plan for Education

A budget of Rs 5,872 crore has been set on this project:

  • Rs 2,862 crore for construction: Modern buildings and amenities.
  • Rs 3,009 crore for operational costs: Teachers’ salaries and expenses for running the school.

The construction of these schools will be completed in the next 8 years.

Network of Kendriya Vidyalayas

Current Status

There are 1,256 Kendriya Vidyalayas in the country so far, including three schools abroad (Moscow, Kathmandu, Tehran). More than 13.56 lakh students are studying in these schools.

Benefits of New KVs

The 85 new schools will provide an additional educational opportunity to 82,560 students. It will meet the demand for quality education in urban and remote areas.

Employment Opportunities

Direct Employment

Each new KV will employ around 63 people, including teachers, administrative staff, and other support staff. In total, it will create 5,388 new permanent jobs.

Jobs During Construction

The construction work will also create thousands of temporary jobs, boosting the local economy.

Objective of KVs

Started in 1962, KVs were primarily built to provide quality education to the children of central government and defence employees. Now these schools are providing equal opportunities for education even in remote areas.

Alignment with National Education Policy (NEP)

Kendriya Vidyalayas will now function as PM Shri schools, with:

  • Excellent infrastructure.
  • High performance in CBSE exams.
